I love these moments. The preparation is almost complete. The dress is on, the veil is being attached and the nervous energy has been turned up to eleven. At this point everyone in the house is very excited and a little nervous. Including me.
What I love about this photo is the soft, even light on Winnie’s face and dress. The light was behind me and coming in over my shoulder from a window which had a lace curtain. This acted as a great diffuser, scattering the light.
You rarely want harsh light when taking wedding photos because the wedding dress is white (in most cases) and reflects so much light back at the camera lens. This often means the dress appears ‘blown out’ and bright white and you miss out on all the details of the dress. A photographer needs to be very careful not to let that happen.
The other thing I love about this photo is the way Winnie’s arms and her veil frame her face. I don’t know about you but when I look at the photo my attention is drawn to her eyes. I can’t help but wonder, what is she thinking?
